General Information

Survey respondents: Women in East of Antioquia (Marinilla, Rionegro, la Ceja y el Carmen de Viboral, Guatape) in ages between 18 and 60 years.

Survey  findings

·      The main answers are: The 27% of women say their role as wives is to love and support their husbands,while, the 32% say their role is to help the family economy and make decisions with their husbands in order to achieve goals together.

According to the survey’s results, 45% of the women think that the role of women as a mother is to educate their children, followed by the 30% of women who think that their role is to do chores. The 20% of them believe that this role is to work and to help to the family economy.  

·   The 47% of respondents consider that maternity reduces the women’s opportunities to study, to work or to do different activities; however, the 53% of them, think that maternity does not reduce the women’s opportunities to study, to work or to do different activities.

·   According to the women who consider that maternity reduces the women’s opportunities to study, to work or to do different activities, the 88% of them think that this fact interferes a little with this process. The 12% of them say that maternity prevent totally the women’s opportunities to study, to work or to do different activities.

  The 79% of the respondents consider that job do not affect the family life. On the other hand, the 21% of them, express that job affects the family life.

·    The family role as a daughter shows the follow results:

42% of them do chores.

29% of them work to help the family economy.

The 17% of them go to study.

And 12% of them support their families unconditionally.

According to the survey, when the women were asked about if they knew any important women in the East of Antioquia, the majority of them said did not know, but a few mentioned these three women: Marga López Díaz, a poet from La Ceja, Javiera Londoño, a woman who gave the slaves the freedom and the representatives of the AMOR y APROVIASI corporation.
